Washington-Grizzly Stadium changed the program
Washington-Grizzly Stadium opened on October 18, 1986, with Montana beating Idaho State 38β31. Since opening, the Griz have built one of the strongest home-field records in FCS football and turned Missoula into one of the sport's signature venues.
Montana's football program dates to 1897. The Griz won their first national championship in 1995 under Don Read and their second in 2001 under Joe Glenn. Montana has won 19 Big Sky championships, including the 2023 title.
